Grapefruit fastfacts

Did you know...

  • Grapefruit was originally named the "forbidden fruit" of Barbados, being identified as one of the "seven wonders of Barbados". I haven't been able to find what the other six were...

  • Grapefruit trees produce little white four-petaled flowers that are simply elegant

  • Even though grapefruits are acidic, they have an alkalizing effect on one's body (except for your teeth, unfortunately). Lemons and limes are other citrus fruit that are magic like that.

  • Until the 19th century, the grapefruit tree was only grown strictly as an ornamental plant! This makes me wonder what "ornamental plants" we grow now bear amazing secrets we don't know about...

  • You CAN eat it with a spoon, you just have to know how. I prefer getting my hands all sticky, but if you want to know how, please watch this This video is worth watching! It's like learning how to two-step at a squaredance....you'll know what I mean once you watch it...
  • The oil from grapefruit peel is often used in aromatherapy, most often used for depression.

  • Grapefruit is excellent for blood circulation, and even getting rid of cellulite. Let's go, fatties, hop on board. Eat more fruit! There's a million other reasons how grapefruit can make you look and feel better, but we'll get to that later.

PRAISE THE GRAPEFRUIT!

After a religious experience happened in my breakfast bowl last week while opening up a big, glowing, beautiful, aromatic, fresh, juicy, delicious grapefruit, I haven't been able to stop eating them. They are simply amazing.

This blog is going to discuss not only why we should give grapefruits infinite praise, but also the in's and out's of specific foods, perhaps a new one each week? How exciting! As a raw vegan, I spend a lot of time exploring the nutritional values and simple beauty of nature's foods, and want to share my mind ramblings with the world. Why not?

*note* If you have suggestions, comments, questions, or concerns, please share, and I will do my best to promptly reply. But unfortunately, this blog will not be a place where you may complain or hate on my fave foods. Sorry 'boutcha. You can be a carnivore, omnivore, juiceavore, whatever, but please be peaceful. My glass of orange juice is half-freakin'-full, thank you very much.

I have to go back to work now, as I'm spending my lunchbreak online...again...researching nutrition stuff...again...but I look forward to spreading juicy citrus love with the rest of you!

Butterfly kisses and bear hugs and stuff,
Chelsea
